Alabama Economic Impact Survey

Nov 5, 2020 | USARK Newsletter

It only takes five minutes! If you have a herpetoculture-related business or interest in Alabama, or outside the state but do business in Alabama, we want to hear from you! The deadline to complete this survey is Monday, November 16.

Capital Trade, Inc. is drafting an economic impact report to show the effects on the herpetocultural industry and trade from the ban which was passed by the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. A vital part of this report is quantifying the revenues that will be lost due to the new regulation, as well as the size of the Alabama herp market overall. Please participate and also share this survey at www.surveymonkey.com/r/W9H5TGY.

All responses will be kept confidential. Only aggregate values will be used in the final report. Please understand that this study cannot be fruitful without your cooperation.

The survey is seeking a good estimate of the total herp trade in Alabama with specifics regarding the species that were recently banned. Please complete the survey even if you do not deal with the recently banned species.

Those banned species include:

·         reticulated python (Python reticulatus, or Malayopython reticulatus)
·         Burmese python (Python bivittatus)
·         Indian python (Python molurus)
·         green anaconda (Eunectes murinus)
·         yellow anaconda (Eunectes notaeus)
·         northern African rock python (Python sebae)
·         southern African rock python (Python natalensis)
·         tegus (all species in the genus Salvator)
·         salamanders (201 species listed by USFWS under the Lacey Act)
·         African soft furred rats (Mastomys natalensis).

NOTE if you respond NO to the first question (that you are located outside of Alabama but do a lot of business in Alabama), please send us an email at info@USARK.org to communicate directly with the study authors.
