I dun mean to create extra or undue workload but I miss a brief overview over problematic laws which have already been passed in the US.
Lists like this have proven difficult to produce for several reasons both in the US and in other countries but I would argue they are valuable in order to better promote the agenda of USark.
Every year more and more questionable bans and regulations are passed in different stated and countries.
Every year we fight same and different pieces of legislation threatening our animals` and our interests.
USark is also strongly focusing on the dire need to involve more animal friends in lobbyism against legislation which has potential to negatively influence our interests. However, for people like me, who have a poor memory, and for beginners, it is quite difficult to get a good overview of the historical background in legislation and descisionmaking in context to reptile and amphibian husbandry.
Compiling a list of important pieces of legislation already in effect throughout the different states and on national level would help give the herpetocultural lobbyists a better overview of what has already been passed, and which way the arrows in our society are pointing. I believe such a list would also be of value in international context, as it would make it easier to map and draw paralells internationally.
This topic was also raised in EUFORA (EUropean FOrum for Reptiles and Amphibians) last year, or a couple of years ago but the production of such material was never realized due to lack in interest, man/womanpower, and also technical difficulties of different characters.
I would argue many of us work in the dark, due to lack of better overview of the legislational situation as it stands today, and also in lack of historical perspective.
A difficulty in producing a list of such character lies in the fact that the experts who are most knowledgable and have the best overview of this, are also the ones who have the least time to spend on producing something like this. As new problems and threatening propositions appear with seemeingly shorter and shorter intervals, the named experts strive to stretch out time to cover the biggest threats of tiday, often with little or no time to spare in analysing retrospect, at all.
If we could chew a bit on this thought and reach some type of conclusion, we could then spread our findings throughout the other reptile forums in order to disperse the task of information gathering, in a joint effort to shed more light on matter important to us. Thoughts on this?
