Last week the Anaheim, California City Council proposed a new exotic animal ordinance. This new proposal would prohibit the possession and sale of many exotic animals. The proposed ordinance would include pythons, boas and any other snake that is 8 feet in length. The city council is proposing that no Anaheim resident would be allowed to keep these animals. The proposal could be on the agenda for a public hearing at the Council's next meeting on October 9.
The reptile community in southern California is a large and dynamic. There are some of the most cutting edge breeding projects in the country. California is responsible for about $35 million per year in reptile related commerce. Anaheim is home to some of the best reptile shows in the country. There has never been a problem with reptiles in Anaheim. If this proposed ordinance passes it will be bad for Anaheim residents and bad for California business.
